C.B.A.I Simultaneous
Pairs night
This week we had the C.B.A.I simultaneous pairs competition.
This is an excellent competition run by the C.B.A.I. where the same hands are played around the country on the same night and scored centrally, so you can see how you did.
There is also a small booklet of the hands with analysis to show the possible actions that should have happened

Ladies and Mens Pairs
After the very bad weather and dangerous roads there was an excellent entry and atmosphere in the club for the start of the Ladies and Mens pairs competition.
An excellent job by our competition secretary saw an entry of fifteen pairs in both competitions (no problems with gender balancing here)
The scoring in both competitions is very close so all to play for next week

The final turkey competition attracted an excellent entry of ten tables, scoring was very close with a tie for second and third place.

Nolan Memorial Teams
The Nolan Memorial teams this year was reduced to a one session event .
This novel competition is always exciting with players entering as a pair with a seeded draw done on the night before play to determine teammates
This years competition attracted an excellent entry of twelve teams and was a very enjoyable competition with some excellent hands

There was no upset in the final night of the Noreen O Connor teams as the favourites
Peter Clifford Norbert Van Woerkom, Karel De Raeymaker, Anna Onishuk
and Willem Mevius easily swept aside the challenge of the rest of the field to win

Terry and Brid
win the Rose Gibson Pairs
In what must surely be the closest finish ever to a major competition in the club Terry Walsh and Brid Kemple won the Rose Gibson pairs competition by a single matchpoint from week one leaders Colm O Driscoll and Norbert van Woerkom.
Despite an almost 60% second session to add to their 69% from the first session the leaders were pipped on the line by a super effort from Terry and Brid.

A superb 71.9% second session by Brendan Curran and Marie Slattery brought them from deep in the pack to win the mixed pairs competition, It was not a good night for the leaders who were unable to hold on to their lead.

The Bankers Bridge club got the new season underway with its A..G.M.
Bankers President Sheila Horkan thanked her outgoing fellow officers Peter Clifford and Peter Stewart for all their work and effort during their very successful time as Secretary and Treasurer she also thanked all her outgoing committee and all of the members who helped with the running of the club and wished everyone well for the new season
